For the 30 years spanning my career, globalization was the key play in chemicals, and it’s been working. From 2000 to 2015 the chemical industry outperformed the global market in Total Shareholder Return. And strategies relying on Asian bets, commercial & operational excellence, and feedstock economics have solidified as the “go-to” playbook for the era.

But that is changing.

Today, the fundamentals are shifting, and performance has stalled.  In the last 5 years, chemicals has lagged the global market, even pre-pandemic. And it calls the “tried-and-true” of the last era into question.

We believe that the future requires new approaches and capability investments.
